It’s Not Her, publishing on February 3, 2026, is an enthralling psychological thriller that keeps up the suspense throughout the book. Mary Kubica expertly weaves readers through dual points of view with past and present tenses while cleverly keeping the readers not only on the edge of their seats but also guessing who the killer is to the very end.
The Plot: With her brother and sister-in-law murdered and her seventeen-year-old niece missing, can Courtney be strong for her brother’s other two children all the while trying to help solve who killed them?
The early murders piqued my attention and interest from the very first page. Kubica masterfully introduces us, the readers, to characters, each of whom becomes a viable suspect as the story unfolds. With each swipe of the page, I did not want to put my Kindle down. I became obsessed with trying to figure out not just who the murderer was, but also their motivation.
The pacing was fast, but it was easy to keep up with. I kept changing my mind on who the killer was, and when I finally decided to stick with my gut, I was completely wrong. I honestly did not see the reveal coming and I am kind of glad I didn’t solve it on my own, although I might make a horrible detective.
Just when It’s Not Her seemed finished, one final twist completely surprised me and stayed with me well after I finished the book.
It’s Not Her was my first experience with New York Times bestselling author Mary Kubica’s work, and I found both her writing style and the plot highly impressive. I’m looking forward to exploring more of Kubica’s novels.
Rating: ★★★★
