Production has gotten underway on season two of Paramount+’s spy thriller Lioness starring Zoe Saldana. The streaming service confirmed filming of season two will be taking place in Texas.

Saldana reprises her role as Joe and is also involved again as an executive producer. Additional returning cast members include Laysla De Oliveira, Emmy nominee Michael Kelly, and Oscar winner Nicole Kidman. Oscar winner Morgan Freeman has been upped to a series regular for the new season.

Lioness, inspired by an actual U.S. Military program, follows the life of Joe (Saldaña) while she attempts to balance her personal and professional life as the tip of the CIA’s spear in the war on terror,” reads Paramount+’s synopsis.

Season two’s ensemble also includes Dave Annable, Jill Wagner, LaMonica Garrett, James Jordan, Austin Hébert, Jonah Wharton, Thad Luckinbill, and Hannah Love Lanier.

Taylor Sheridan created the series and serves as an executive producer along with Nicole Kidman, David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, David Hutkin, Jill Wagner, David Lemanowicz, Geyer Kosinski, Michael Friedman, and Keith Cox. Lioness is produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios.

The first season drew in nearly six million viewers in its first week and set a record as the most-watched worldwide series premiere on the streamer.

Sheridan’s collaboration with Paramount+ also includes Tulsa King, Mayor of Kingstown, 1923, Lawmen: Bass Reeves, and 1883. Production is currently underway on Sheridan’s Landman, starring Billy Bob Thornton, Demi Moore, and Jon Hamm.
