“This is a call from the ancestors to sail to new skies and reconnect our people across the entire ocean,” declares Moana in the first teaser trailer for the animated sequel Moana 2. The minute-and-a-half trailer confirms the entire gang – Moana, Pua the pig, Heihei the chicken, and Maui – are back together for a new adventure.
“Moana 2 reunites Moana and Maui three years later for an expansive new voyage alongside a crew of unlikely seafarers,” reads Disney’s synopsis. “After receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced.”
Auli’i Cravalho returns to voice Moana and Dwayne Johnson’s back as demigod Maui. David Derrick Jr., Jason Hand, and Dana Ledoux Miller direct, and Christina Chen and Yvett Merino serve as producers. The animated sequel features music by Grammy winners Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, Grammy nominee Opetaia Foaʻi, and three-time Grammy winner Mark Mancina.
Moana was released in theaters on November 23, 2016. Moana 2, originally developed as a TV series, opens in theaters on November 27, 2024.
