Production has officially begun on Scooby-Doo: Origins, Netflix’s new take on the classic animated cartoon series. The live-action adaptation is filming in Atlanta, and Netflix hasn’t announced an anticipated premiere date.
“A modern reimagining of the iconic mystery-solving group of teens and their very special dog. During their final summer at camp, old friends Shaggy and Daphne get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder,” reads Netflix’s synopsis. “Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma, and the strange but ever so handsome new kid, Freddy, they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets.”
Mckenna Grace (The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping) stars as Daphne Blake, Tanner Hagen (The Pitt) plays Shaggy Rogers, Abby Ryder Fortson (Are You There God? It’s Me Margaret) is Velma Dinkley, and Maxwell Jenkins (Lost in Space) plays Fred Jones. Paul Walter Hauser (Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere) also stars.
Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg are the co-showrunners, serving as writers and executive producers. Additional executive producers include Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman, André Nemec, Jeff Pinkner, and Adrienne Erickson. Toby Haynes directs the series’ first episode and executive produces.
The live-action series is a Warner Bros. Television production.
