Hulu’s dropped the first photos from Good American Family, a limited series starring Ellen Pompeo (Grey’s Anatomy) and Mark Duplass (The Creep Tapes). The series is based on the true story of Natalia Grace, with a family adopting a child who may not be as young as she appears.
Pompeo, Duplass, and Imogen Reid lead the cast of the eight-episode series. Dulé Hill, Christina Hendricks, Sarayu Blue, and Jenny O’Hara are recurring guest stars.
“Told from multiple points of view, as a means to explore issues of perspective, bias, and trauma, this compelling drama is inspired by the disturbing stories surrounding a Midwestern couple who adopts a girl with a rare form of dwarfism. But as they begin to raise her alongside their three biological children, mystery emerges around her age and background, and they slowly start to suspect she may not be who she says she is,” reads Hulu’s synopsis. “As they defend their family from the daughter they’ve grown to believe is a threat, she fights her own battle to confront her past and what her future holds in a showdown that ultimately plays out in the tabloids and the courtroom.”
“I just thought taking this on would be a land mine,” said Pompeo in an interview with Vanity Fair. “This is a scary thing for me to even entertain because it’s intense stuff, and it deals with children and it deals with children who are neurodivergent and have disabilities. This just seems like really tricky stuff.”
Katie Robbins created the series and serves as an executive producer and showrunner with Sarah Sutherland. Andrew Stearn, Dan Spilo, Niles Kirchner, Mike Epps, and Calamity Jane’s Ellen Pompeo and Laura Holstein also executive produce.
Good American Family premieres on March 19, 2025 with the release of the first two episodes.
