A24’s first trailer for The Brutalist gives absolutely nothing away, other than who’s in it and what critics think about the three and a half hour drama. A24 snatched up the film following its premiere at the Venice Film Festival and has set an awards season premiere date of December 20, 2024.

“Escaping post-war Europe, visionary architect László Toth arrives in America to rebuild his life, his work, and his marriage to his wife Erzsébet after being forced apart during wartime by shifting borders and regimes,” reads A24’s synopsis. “On his own in a strange new country, László settles in Pennsylvania, where the wealthy and prominent industrialist Harrison Lee Van Buren recognizes his talent for building. But power and legacy come at a heavy cost…”

The cast includes Adrien Brody, Felicity Jones, Guy Pearce, Joe Alwyn, Raffey Cassidy, and Stacy Martin. Emma Laird, Isaach De Bankolé, and Alessandro Nivola also star.

Brady Corbet and Mona Fastvold co-wrote the screenplay and Corbet directed. Producers include Corbet, Trevor Matthews, Nick Gordon, Brian Young, Andrew Morrison, Andrew Lauren, and D.J. Gugenheim. Corbet’s behind-the-scenes team includes director of photography Lol Crawley, production designer Judy Becker, editor Dávid Jancsó, costume designer Kate Forbes, and music by Daniel Blumberg. James A. Taylor is the music supervisor.
