Apple TV+’s critically acclaimed Slow Horses will kick off its fourth season on September 4, 2024 with the release of the first two episodes. New episodes will stream on Wednesdays through October 2nd. In addition to setting the premiere date, the streamer released the first batch of season four photos that tease what’s in store.
Season four of the spy drama is based on Mick Herron’s fourth book in the Slough House series, Spook Street. Oscar-winner Gary Oldman returns to lead the cast as Jackson Lamb, with Academy Award-nominee Kristin Scott Thomas, BAFTA Scotland Award-winner Jack Lowden, Saskia Reeves, Rosalind Eleazar, Christopher Chung, Aimee-Ffion Edwards, Kadiff Kirwan and Academy Award-nominee Jonathan Pryce reprising their roles. Newcomers to the Slow Horses world include SAG Winner Hugo Weaving, BAFTA winner Joanna Scanlan, IFTA winner Ruth Bradley, Tom Brooke, and James Callis.
“Slow Horses is a darkly humorous espionage drama that follows a dysfunctional team of British intelligence agents who serve in a dumping ground department of MI5 known un-affectionately as Slough House,” reads Apple TV+’s synopsis. “Season four opens with a bombing that detonates personal secrets, rocking the already unstable foundations of Slough House.”
Will Smith (not the actor) created the series and executive produces. Additional executive producers include Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, Iain Canning, Emile Sherman, Jane Robertson, Julian Stevens, Douglas Urbanski, Gail Mutrux, and Graham Yost. Adam Randall directed season four, and See-Saw Films produced the series.
Slow Horses, which earned a 97% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, has won two BAFTA Television Awards. It also earned Casting Guild, Writers’ Guild of Great Britain, American Cinema Editors, and British Society of Cinematographers awards nominations. Apple TV+ has already renewed the series for a fifth season.
