Disney+ has unveiled the first trailer for Star Wars: The Acolyte, the latest entry in the ever-expanding Star Wars Universe. The new live-action series starring Lee Jung-jae (Squid Game) and Amandla Stenberg (The Hate U Give) is set to premiere on June 4, 2024 with the release of the first two episodes.
New episodes will stream on Tuesdays.
“In Star Wars: The Acolyte, an investigation into a shocking crime spree pits a respected Jedi Master (Jung-jae) against a dangerous warrior from his past (Stenberg). As more clues emerge, they travel down a dark path where sinister forces reveal all is not what it seems,” reads Lucasfilm’s synopsis.
The series, set 100 years before Phantom Menace, also stars Manny Jacinto (Nine Perfect Strangers), Dafne Keen (His Dark Materials), Jodie Turner-Smith (Queen & Slim), Rebecca Henderson (Inventing Anna), Charlie Barnett (Russian Doll), Dean-Charles Chapman (1917), Joonas Suotamo (Star Wars‘ Chewbacca), and Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix franchise).
Leslye Headland created the series and serves as executive producer, showrunner, and director of episodes one and two. Additional executive producers include Kathleen Kennedy, Simon Emanuel, Jeff F. King, and Jason Micallef. Rayne Roberts, Damian Anderson, Eileen Shim and Rob Bredow are the producers.
Kogonada directed episodes three and seven, with Alex Garcia Lopez directing episodes four and five. Hanelle Culpepper directed episodes six and eight.
