High pressure over the Colorado River is weakening, allowing cooler air to flow into the Southland.
Inland desert and valley communities in particular are expected to see triple-digit temperatures lingering through the weekend.
During heat warnings, residents are advised to stay in air-conditioned indoor locations, drink plenty of fluids and check on relatives and neighbors. Children and pets should not be left unattended in vehicles.
On Saturday, Los Angeles and Orange counties will see patchy fog in the morning before temperatures top out at 83 degrees, with similar conditions for Father’s Day.
The valleys and Inland Empire will once again see soaring temperatures, reaching 95 in many communities and staying in the mid-90s on Sunday.
Palm Springs will climb to 119 degrees on Saturday.
Beaches will stay in the mid-70s Saturday and the next few days after.
