The incident happened at 9:15 a.m. of off Grey Whale Cove State Beach, authorities said.
At 9:15am, a 35-year-old man was swimming off of Grey Whale Cove State Beach when he was bitten in the right leg by a 6-8 ft. great white shark. The male was able to swim to shore and medical aid was summoned. The male was transported to Stanford.The beach is now closed.

The man was able to swim to shore and received help from bystanders until first responders arrived, according to San Mateo County Fire District Battalion Chief Brian Ham.
Ham said the shark bit the surfer in the back of the right leg, leaving a severe wound.
“He lost about a pint of blood,” Ham said.

He’s since been released from the hospital, ABC7 News learned on Saturday.
The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Department estimates the shark was about six to eight feet in length.
Thomas Masotta was fishing at the beach when the attack occurred.
He said the victim walked “several hundred yards” to get Masotta’s attention. He then called 911 and first responders arrived at the scene minutes later.
Video provided to ABC7 News by Masotta shows the scene at the beach Saturday morning and the victim being treated by paramedics.
