Johnny Depp put in a surprise appearance at the 2026 San Diego Comic-Con to promote Paramount Pictures’ Ebenezer. This year’s SDCC marked Depp’s first time back at the sold-out pop culture convention since 2018.
Depp made his 2026 SDCC debut on the streets of San Diego’s Gaslamp district, appearing in full costume and greeting fans. (His appearance wasn’t officially announced in advance.) Depp followed that up by taking the stage at the end of a panel in Hall H and introducing the official trailer for the upcoming winter release.
The trailer features a list of Depp’s memorable characters followed by “the master of misfits returns.” The first words spoken during the trailer are uttered by Depp as Ebenezer, saying, “It’s good to be back,” which works for both the character and the actor.

Paramount’s synopsis reads, “This November, Johnny Depp is Ebenezer Scrooge. The name you know, the story you don’t.”
In addition to Depp in the titular role, the holiday release stars Rupert Grint, Andrea Riseborough, Sam Claflin, Daisy Ridley, and Arthur Conti. Rounding out the cast are Ellie Bamber, Henry Lloyd-Hughes, Charlie Murphy, Tramell Tillman, and Sir Ian McKellen.
Ti West (X, Pearl, MaXXXine) directs from a screenplay by Nathaniel Halpern, inspired by the classic Charles Dickens holiday tale.
