HBO’s finally released an official trailer for IT: Welcome to Derry, offering a new look at Pennywise the Clown and the kids he’ll be terrorizing. The series is a prequel to the events that took place in the IT films, based on Stephen King’s novel and directed by Andy Muschietti.
Muschietti developed the series and directed multiple episodes. Commenting on King’s involvement, Muschietti said, “Stephen King has to approve everything. But it was really informal this time. I’ve had a close relationship with Stephen King since I made the movies. He writes to me, and I write him back. It’s an honor for me, and I consider him a friend.
One day, I wrote to him and said, ‘We have this idea, which is to develop the interludes in a miniseries that will take place before the events of the movie,’ and he loved it. He said, ‘Let’s do it!’
Obviously, as we progressed, we kept showing him the work, and he approved the first draft of the script. Then we showed him where we would take the future seasons of the show. He trusts us because of what we did with the movies, which he loved as much as audiences did.”
The eight-episode season premieres on October 26, 2025. New episodes air on Sundays at 9pm ET/PT.
Jovan Adepo, Taylour Paige, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe, and Rudy Mancuso star. Bill Skarsgård reprises his role as one of the most disturbing clowns ever created.
Executive producers Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs co-created the series with Andy Muschietti. Additional executive producers include Brad Caleb Kane, David Coatsworth, Bill Skarsgård, Shelley Meals, Roy Lee, and Dan Lin. Kane and Fuchs guide the series as co-showrunners.
