‘Task’ Series Preview: The Cast, Plot, Trailer, and Premiere Date

Task stars Mark Ruffalo and Fabien Frankel

Emmy winner and four-time Oscar nominee Mark Ruffalo stars in HBO Max’s new drama Task, created by Mare of Easttown‘s Brad Ingelsby. The intense official trailer shows Ruffalo’s character being forced to lead a task force investigating home invasions. It’s evident that he’s grappling with personal issues, and his assignment to the case comes at a difficult time.

The series also stars Emmy nominee Tom Pelphrey (Ozark), Emilia Jones (CODA), Jamie McShane (1923), Sam Keeley (The Dry), Thuso Mbedu (The Woman King), and Fabien Frankel (House of the Dragon). Alison Oliver (Saltburn), Raúl Castillo (Smile 2), Silvia Dionicio (Delusional), Phoebe Fox (The Great), and Emmy winner Martha Plimpton (The Good Wife) round out the ensemble.

The series was announced in June 2023. HBO Max has set a September 7, 2025 premiere date, with new episodes of the seven-episode season streaming Sundays at 9pm ET/PT.

“Set in the working-class suburbs of Philadelphia, an FBI agent (Mark Ruffalo) heads a Task Force to put an end to a string of violent robberies led by an unsuspecting family man (Tom Pelphrey),” reads HBO Max’s synopsis.

Brad Ingelsby serves as writer, executive producer, and showrunner. Jeremiah Zagar and Salli Richardson-Whitfield direct and executive produce. Additional executive producers include Mark Ruffalo, Mark Roybal, Paul Lee, David Crockett, and Ron Schmidt.
