
Barbie‘s Ken is set to headline director Shawn Levy’s upcoming Star Wars project, confirmed to be Star Wars: Starfighter. Ryan Gosling will star in the just-announced addition to the Star Wars franchise, with Lucasfilm targeting a fall 2025 start of production.
The title and confirmation of Gosling’s involvement were announced during the 2025 Star Wars Celebration in Japan. SW fans can expect the film to see a May 28, 2027 theatrical release.
Per the official announcement, “Star Wars: Starfighter, which will be directed by Shawn Levy and star Ryan Gosling, is a standalone adventure taking place approximately five years after the events of 2019’s Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker. The film, which will begin production this fall, is an entirely new adventure featuring all-new characters set in a period of time that has not been explored on screen yet.”
Shawn Levy’s film credits include multiple films with the other Ryan (Reynolds): Deadpool & Wolverine, The Adam Project, and Free Guy. Levy also directed the Night at the Museum franchise, Date Night, Real Steel, and multiple episodes of Stranger Things.
Ryan Gosling earned a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination for Barbie and Best Actor nominations for La La Land and Half Nelson. Gosling’s recent credits include The Fall Guy, The Gray Man, First Man, and Blade Runner 2049.
