CBS’s 2025-2026 primetime season is filling out, with the network announcing the renewal of The Neighborhood. The announcement wasn’t all positive as CBS confirmed the upcoming eighth season will be the half-hour comedy’s last.

“The brilliant cast and creative team at The Neighborhood led by the incomparable Cedric the Entertainer, have brought levity, laughter, and poignant storylines to Monday nights for seven incredible seasons,” stated Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment. “The Neighborhood is a strong ratings performer for CBS and one of the top comedies on TV. We believe the show’s loyal fans deserve a proper farewell season full of the trademark humor and heartfelt moments that are synonymous with the series.”

In addition to Cedric the Entertainer, season seven stars Max Greenfield, Beth Behrs, Tichina Arnold, Sheaun McKinney, Marcel Spears, and Skye Townsend. Executive producers include Bill Martin, Mike Schiff, Aaron Kaplan, Wendi Trilling, Cedric the Entertainer, and Eric Rhone.

CBS offers this synopsis of the popular comedy:

The Neighborhood is a comedy starring Cedric the Entertainer as Calvin Butler, the unofficial mayor of his Pasadena neighborhood, where he lives with his loving wife, Tina, and next door to his two older sons, Malcolm and Marty. The show tells the story of the Butlers’ unlikely friendship with their new(ish) neighbor, perpetual nice guy Dave Johnson, his wife, Gemma, and their now-teenage son, Grover. After seven years of sharing a front yard, the Johnsons have gone from neighborhood newcomers to full-on denizens, really becoming the best of friends with the Butlers (though Calvin won’t admit it).

The two families, who couldn’t be more different, have realized they have much more in common than they ever thought they would. Since selling his auto-repair shop, The Pit Stop, Calvin retired… then un-retired once he realized he was so damn bored! Luckily, his wife Tina supported him as he used his entrepreneurial spirit to fund a new business venture with his son, where they combined his business expertise and his son Marty’s mechanical engineering knowledge to open The Fuse Box, a one-stop shop for electric vehicle repair. The Butlers are back in business!

On top of starting their new company, Marty had a beautiful baby girl with his one-time fling and now co-worker, Courtney. Malcolm, the eldest son, tries to finish his college degree at USC while also coaching their varsity baseball team. Meanwhile, Dave found a fantastic job as a therapist at the Department of Veterans Affairs, and Gemma remains the dedicated principal at the Walcott Academy. Despite his therapy expertise, Dave is now turning to his new best friend Calvin for advice on how to handle his absentee father Lamar coming back into his life following his stint in prison!

The two families, once strangers, have now made this neighborhood their home, and the Johnsons fit into this new community better than they ever could’ve expected.
