Apple TV+ is rewarding Severance fans with another season of the critically acclaimed sci-fi workplace drama. The streamer renewed the award-winning series for a third season, and Severance creator Dan Erickson claims it won’t take another three years to arrive.
“We’re hoping that there are no massive strikes or pandemics or fissures opening up in the crest of the Earth that end up delaying us. Barring that, I’d certainly hope that we’d get this one out a bit sooner,” said Erickson in an interview with Variety. “But, Severance has always been a show that takes a long time to make, and we’re proud of what we came up with, even though it took quite a long time.”
The series premiered on February 18, 2022, with season two debuting on January 17, 2025. The game-changing season two finale aired on March 20, 2025.
Season two stars Emmy Award nominee Adam Scott, Britt Lower, Tramell Tillman, Zach Cherry, Jen Tullock, and Michael Chernus. Dichen Lachman, Emmy Award winner John Turturro, Sarah Bock, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Academy Award winner Christopher Walken, and Emmy and Academy Award winner Patricia Arquette also star.
Dan Erickson created, writes, and executive produces. Additional executive producers include Ben Stiller, Patricia Arquette, Adam Scott, John Lesher, Jackie Cohn, Mark Friedman, Beau Willimon, Jordan Tappis, Sam Donovan, Caroline Baron, Richard Schwartz, and Nicholas Weinstock. Stiller, Donovan, Jessica Lee Gagné, and Uta Briesewitz directed season two.
“Making Severance has been one of the most creatively exciting experiences I’ve ever been a part of,” said Ben Stiller. “While I have no memory of this, I’m told making season three will be equally enjoyable, though any recollection of these future events will be forever and irrevocably wiped from my memory as well.”
Season two stands as the most-watched series on Apple TV+.
“I couldn’t be more excited to get back to work with Ben, Dan, the incredible cast and crew, Apple, and the whole Severance team,” said Adam Scott. “Oh hey also—not a huge deal—but if you see my innie, please don’t mention any of this to him. Thanks.”
Apple TV+ offers this description of the series:
In Severance, Mark Scout (Scott) leads a team at Lumon Industries, whose employees have undergone a severance procedure that surgically divides their memories between their work and personal lives. This daring experiment in “work-life balance” is called into question as Mark finds himself at the center of an unraveling mystery that will force him to confront the true nature of his work … and of himself.
In season two, Mark and his friends learn the dire consequences of trifling with the severance barrier, leading them further down a path of woe.
