40 years after serial killer Richard Ramirez caused widespread panic throughout California, Peacock’s diving back into his murder spree with Richard Ramirez: The Night Stalker Tapes. The two-part documentary series, which features selected clips from more than 25 hours of audio tapes, will premiere on Tuesday, December 10, 2024.

Executive produced by Amy Goodman Kass, Elizabeth Fischer, Alexa Danner, Andy Berg, and Liz Cole, the docuseries includes interviews with Ramirez’s family, friends, and his wife. Ramirez was convicted of 13 counts of murder, five attempted murders, 11 sexual assaults, and 14 burglaries. Sentenced to death in 1989, the Night Stalker died in prison of natural causes before he could be executed.

“In advance of the 40th anniversary of his murderous reign of terror and epic arrest, this project uses Death Row audio interviews with Ramirez as well as audio and video interviews with his family, friends and wife – most of which have never been heard before – to explore how a perfect storm of child abuse and twisted boyhood influences enabled a troubled young man from El Paso, TX to become the infamous Night Stalker,” reads Peacock’s synopsis. “These tapes offer an unsettling and thought-provoking look into the mind of a brutal serial killer and, by the end of the series, will provide significant findings to the age-old question of whether a monster is born or created – or both.”
