“You know, when we came into this movie we weren’t sure how much we were going to do live or not,” says Wicked director Jon M. Chu (In the Heights). “But they are the best singers in the world and so every scene they have been singing live.” The new three-minute behind the scenes featurette focuses on the musical numbers, with stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo discussing why they felt it was important to sing live.
In addition to Grande and Erivo, the musical stars Michelle Yeoh as Shiz University’s regal headmistress Madame Morrible; Jonathan Bailey (Fellow Travelers) as Fiyero, a roguish and carefree prince; Tony nominee Ethan Slater (Fosse/Verdon) as Boq, an altruistic Munchkin student; Marissa Bode in her feature-film debut as Nessarose, Elphaba’s favored sister; and pop culture icon Jeff Goldblum as the legendary Wizard of Oz.
Emmy nominee Bowen Yang (Saturday Night Live) and Bronwyn James (Harlots) star as Pfannee and ShenShen, two conniving compatriots of Glind; a new character created for the film, Miss Coddle, is played by Tony nominee Keala Settle (The Greatest Showman), and four-time Emmy winner Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones) is the voice of Dr. Dillamond.
Wicked Part One opens in theaters on November 22, 2024. Part Two follows on November 26, 2025.
