The one-minute teaser for Apple TV+’s Presumed Innocent opens with Rusty Sabich (Oscar nominee Jake Gyllenhaal) explaining that people misunderstand love. It needs time to grow. And in Rusty’s case, love has grown to involve an extramarital affair with a fellow prosecutor.

In addition to Gyllenhaal, the eight-episode limited series stars Ruth Negga, Bill Camp, O-T Fagbenle, Chase Infiniti, Elizabeth Marvel, and Nana Mensah. Renate Reinsve, Peter Sarsgaard and Kingston Rumi Southwick also star in the thriller based on Scott Turow’s bestselling novel.

“The gripping series takes viewers on a journey through the horrific murder that upends the Chicago Prosecuting Attorney’s office when chief deputy prosecutor Rusty Sabich is suspected of the crime,” reads Apple TV+’s synopsis. “The series explores obsession, sex, politics, and the power and limits of love, as the accused fights to hold his family and marriage together.”
