John Krasinski returns to the director’s chair with IF, a family comedy starring Ryan Reynolds. The first teaser trailer reveals a world in which imaginary childhood friends are real, and it’s up to Reynolds and Cailey Fleming to save them.
The cast also includes Krasinski, Fiona Shaw, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Louis Gossett Jr., Alan Kim, and Liza Colón-Zayas. Krasinski’s The Office co-star Steve Carell also joins the IF fun, voicing a massive purple IF named Blue.
“I figured I needed to make a movie for my kids. Seeing as though Quiet Place is like PG-40 in our house — they won’t see Quiet Place till they’re 40 — I figured I should make one for them,” said Krasinski in an interview with EW.
“IF is about a girl who discovers that she can see everyone’s imaginary friends — and what she does with that superpower — as she embarks on a magical adventure to reconnect forgotten IFs with their kids,” reads Paramount’s synopsis.
Krasinski, Reynolds, Allyson Seeger, and Andrew Form serve as producers, with John J. Kelly and George Dewey executive producing.
Paramount is releasing IF in theaters on May 17, 2024.
