LOS ANGELES (KABC) — Although the prolonged heat wave is continuing in Southern California through next week, temps are going shoot back up again over the weekend.
An excessive heat watch is in effect for the region until Tuesday night, with the hottest temperatures expected on Sunday.
Many inland and desert communities will stay in the triple digits through the weekend.
People are being warned to stay indoors in air-conditioned locations when possible during the hottest hours of the afternoon and be sure to keep an eye on pets and vulnerable family members.
Los Angeles and Orange counties on Sunday will reach a high of 100 degrees in the afternoon with a 20% chance of rain. The temps will will dip to 75 at night.
The valleys and Inland Empire will see scorching temps, hitting about 110 in many areas on Saturday with a 10% chance of rain. Similar temps are on tap for Monday.
Beaches on Saturday will be warm, reaching a high of 91 degrees and a small chance of showers as well. Temps will reach a high of 84 on Monday.
Mountain communities on Sunday will also be warm, hitting a high of 84 with a slight chance of thunderstorms.
Deserts will be very hot through the weekend, staying above 100 for the next several days.
